The healthy bedroom

You spend one third of your life in the bedroom. This is why it is important that your bedroom has a healthy, allergy-friendly indoor climate.

11 tips for a healthier bedroom

  1. Furnish your bedroom in a simple style so that it is easy to clean.
  2. Avoid materials that easily collect dust, like heavy curtains, thick carpets, structured wallpaper, etc.
  3. Don’t overfurnish your bedroom.
  4. Choose a bed with a breathable mattress and make sure there is room to clean properly under the bed.
  5. Bed linen, quilts and pillows should be washed at at least 55° C – the temperature at which house dust mites are eliminated.
  6. House dust mite allergy sufferers should have their quilt and pillow washed 3-4 times a year. The top mattress should be washed every 4-8 weeks.
  7. Maintain bedroom temperature at 18-23° C.
  8. Air the room at least 2-3 times a day with a through draught for 10-15 minutes.
  9. Clean the room thoroughly once a week.
  10. Never smoke in the bedroom.
  11. Never allow pets in the bedroom.
